Finally, a new update? Easter 2009
The mix of springtime holiday rituals and target marketing has me as confused as ever. There’s Groundhog’s Day with the Puxatony Phil and St. Patrick’s Day with the beer and cute little green guys, then there’s Easter which is a whole mess of entwined Christian and Pagan celebrations. Bunnies, Christ rising from the dead, colored eggs, etc. (Although strangely enough it’s only politicaly correct to celebrate the Pagen rituals)
It’s almost like, “Christ’s tomb sits at the very end of the rainbow next to a pot of gold and keg of dark beer, and if Jesus rises from the dead, exits the tomb, sees his shadow and lays a blue egg, then that means another six more weeks of winter.
There. That should have been an equal opportunity offending statement.
Actually, I’m pretty rooted in my religious beliefs. It’s not verbatim of what was taught in my Lutheran school, but I haven’t been stricken down yet. (knock knock) Anyway, the one thing that I do know is that this Easter I needed a break from being hunched over the entryway tiling project and an opportunity to ride some new trails presented itself, so of course I jumped at the opportunity.
Sunday morning I got my heathen ass up at 5:45, showered and met my buddy Jim, who was kind (or crazy) enough to join me at a sunrise service in Pawling at 6:30. Coffee at the diner to stay awake after, then on over to Brewster for some riding fun! John and Stephanie showed us around trails they had been maintaining over the years, and what a fun bunch of trails they were! Lot’s of ups, downs, arounds, overs, unders…I’m not sure how far we actually went, but it was well worth it, and the company was wonderful!
Sadly I have no photos. Bummer, maybe next time.
